Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - The Musical

On new years day the hubby and I headed back into the city along with the Purple Fairy, our eldest Nephew and his friend to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Capitol Theatre.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is based on the book written by Ian Flemming (yes the same Ian Flemming who wrote the Bond books!) as a story for his children. This multi million dollar production remains the longest running musical ever to play at the London Palladium and was nominated for three Olivier Awards, five Tony Awards, ten Outer Critics Circle Awards and four Drama Desk Awards. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang holds the Guinness World Record for the most expensive stage prop in the history of British Theatre!

The musical was simply magical. David Hobson was a caring and eccentric Caractacus Potts, Rachael Beck was divine as Truly Scrumptious, George Kapiniaris and Todd Goddard brought great comic moments as spies Goran and Boris and Tyler Coppin was every bit as sinister and creepy a child catcher as Robert Helpmann had been in the film.

But the undeniable star of the show was without doubt the amazing car itself. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was simply wondrous as it drove, sailed and flew around the stage. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will bring joy to old and young alike!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is on at the Capitol Theatre until 19th January before heading to Melbourne and then Adelaide. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster
