Top 10 Christmas Books

Carrying on with the top ten of Christmas today I will focus on books:

1. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens:
This morality tale is a Christmas classic and a favourite of young and old alike. A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge an old selfish skinflint who does not honor the spirit of Christmas or share his wealth. Scrooge is visited by three ghosts who convince him to change his ways.
2. Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore:
This endearing Christmas poem about a visit by St Nick is another Christmas classic that just had to make the list!

3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss
The Grinch, whose heart is two sizes too small, hates Who-ville’s holiday celebrations, and plans to steal all the presents to prevent Christmas from coming. To his amazement, Christmas comes anyway, and the Grinch discovers the true meaning of the holiday.

4. The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen
This wonderful story is an ageless chronicle of a young girl struggling to stay warm on New Year’s Eve using the very matches she is suppose to be selling to earn money for her family. With each strike of a match the little girl sees wonderful things in the flames which warm both her heart and soul.

5. The Nutcracker by Ralph Manheim
Adapted from Tchaikovsky's enchanting ballet the book tells the story of Clara a young girl who receives a nutcracker for Christmas present the comes to life an transports her to the world of sweets.

6. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C S Lewis
Four evacuees travel through the wardobe into the land of Narnia where it is always winter but never Christmas the seek out Aslan the true king of Narnia to defeat the White Queen who was placed the spell.
7. The Jolly Christmas Postman by Allan Ahlberg and Janet Ahlberg
As a kid I adored The Jolly Postman books and this Christmas edition is no different!

8. The Snowman by Raymond Briggs
This beautiful book is one the whole family can enjoy!

9. The Autobiography of Santa by Jeff Guinn
Tells the real story of the man in the red suit

10. Letters from Father Christmas by J R R Tolkien
From the author of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings come this collections of letters that he wrote to his children from Santa
