Weekly Buys - Pinup Girl Clothing

When I first started to get into vintage style clothing Pinupgirlclothing.com was one of the first websites I came across. I have always admired their clothing but as of yet had not ordered from them but when we booked our cruised I knew I wanted to purchase some of their garments and with the excellent prices in their Black Friday sale I could not resist!

I ordered:

The Malibu Tiki Dress with Bolero in Orange Tropical Print by Deadly Dames which will be perfect for tropical nights on our Pacific Island cruise. Unfortunately when it arrived it was a little small but hopefully I will fit into it by the time we go in July.

The Sailor Playsuit with Red and White Stripes and Ruffle Trimmed Navy Bengaline Shorts by Pinup Couture which also unfortunately is a little small!

Two swimsuits the Bettie "Hello Sailor" Swimsuit by Pinup Couture and the Bettie Swimsuit in Black Cherry by Pinup Couture. I am a little short of swimsuits as I will probably be swimming almost every day. 

And finally the Audrey Skirt in Black by Pinup Couture which I ordered as I don't currently own a plain  black circle skirt. 

Weekly Buys - 9th January 2015

On Monday evening the French fairy, her partner, her son and his friend arrived for a visit. They are holidaying in Byron for a couple of weeks but came to visit us overnight. Monday night the Hubby stoked up the BBQ and we had a few drinks but on Tuesday we planned an epic Op shopping trip visiting all the op shops in Ballina.

So on Tuesday morning the French Fairy, my Sister and I hit the shops. We started off in the Salvo's Family store where I picked up this shirt for the Hubby for just $1. It has a few small rust spots on it but with the busy design they are barely noticeable and for $1 I really didn't mind.

I also grabbed this polka dot blouse for myself for just $4 and this Liberace record for $1.

Next we hit Vinnies where the French Fairy found a fab sweater for the colder months and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter store but we didn't find anything much there.

Our next stop was Ballina Care Bargain Centre where I immediately spotted this dress on a mannequin. After stripping it off the dummy I noticed the Retrospec'd label so immediately snapped it up for just $4!

Next we headed to the Anglicare Anglican Op Shop but found there prices a little more expensive than the other op shops around and nothing really caught our eye.

In the ADRA op shop the French Fairy spotted this cute yellow bow print dress and bought it for me for just $5.

Our last stop before lunch was the Northern Rivers Animal Services Op Shop but by this point we were all a little tired and thirsty so we just had a quick look through before meeting up with the boys at the RSL for a drink and a spot of lunch.

After lunch myself, the Hubby, my Sister and her Boyfriend went to the Lifeline Op shop where my sister picked up a cute white summer dress with purple flowers and the hubby found a nice black shirt.

All in all I spent $9 of my own money and was bought the dress for $5 so for just $14 got 2 new dresses a blouse and the record. Not a bad op shop haul for the day!

Weekly Buys - 22nd October 2014

At the beginning of this year I made the decision to be more mindful of where my clothes come from and how they are made. I decided that I wanted to buy more clothes that were thrifted or vintage rather than purchasing cheap throwaway fashion. This year I have found a whole heap of fabulous finds in my local Op shops so I thought I'd share a couple recent purchases with you.

The first one is this fab bird print dress which was originally from Crossroads. At a size 16 it is rather to big for me but it looks great belted.

The second is this cute 50's style tropical print halter dress. The label says Mei Mei which I have never heard of but I will be looking them up if they make fab style dresses like this.

Both these dresses were $5 at my local Lifeline op shop which in my opinion is an absolute steal!

Weekly Buys - 27th August 2014 - Op Shop Bargains

Its been a while since I've written a post about my op shop bargains that I have snapped up so I thought I would catch you up on a few recentish purchases. The first is this awesome green glitter shirt that I picked up in the church op shop in Mortdale for just $4. I'm not sure about its age but it was too fab not to take. I also picked up these gloves at the same time.

When we flew up to Ballina to look at houses many weeks back I was scouting through the local Vinnies when I came across this Hi There by Karen Walker dress in a swallow print for just $5. These dress normally retail around the $200 mark so this was a great bargain. I also picked up this little blue polka dot playsuit from Florence and Fred for $5 at the same time.

 I've also picked up a whole plethora of records from a number of local op shops in Ballina recently. They always have heaps in so sell them from between 50c to $1 a record!

Weekly Buys: Modcloth's Stylish Suprises

Recentely Modcloth run one of their Stylish Surprise sales whereby you select your size and the number of items you want and Modcloth send out mystery items. Each item is sold for $10 but is worth anywhere between $29.99 to $299.99. My wardrobe needed a bit of a shake up so I thought this would be a good way to buy some items I may not have picked up myself and use them to create a different style.

 I order 4 items and they arrived this week here is what came in the box:

When I initially opened the box it looked like the items I were sent were a bit dark and dull but when I took this dress out of the package I was pleasantly surprised by the cute cat design. The dress was sold as Cat's More Like It Dress on Modcloth but it is Dear Creatures Camille dress. From what I can find the dress retails around $90 so for just $10 it was a steal!

The second item was this teal asymmetric tunic from Piko 1988. It will be perfect for winter with leggings and a skivvy underneath and possibly belted. I can't seem to find this item on Modcloth or find a website for Piko but I did find a red version on Dancewear House USA for $32.

The next item was this sea green cotton skirt by Ixia. I can't find this skirt online anywhere so have no idea how much it retails at but I will be nice for summer and can be worn in winter with thick tights and a jumper. However it is slightly small over my hips for me at the moment. The only way I can wear it is to pull it up so it is high waisted and it looks a little ridiculous!

The last item is this Esley black and grey dress again I can't find this one online and it wouldn't have been something that I would have picked out and I'm not sure if I like it or not.

So all in all I'm pretty happy with my haul for just $40 plus $10 postage I got 4 fab items! I will definitely be partaking in the next stylish surprise sale when it comes around.

The Sydney Vintage and Retro Fair 2013 - Purchases

I though I'd write a post about the items I picked up from the Vintage and Retro Fair last weekend. On Friday night after our fitting I had the opportunity to browse the stalls at the fair and do a spot of shopping. I like to do my shopping as soon as possible to make sure I don't miss out on the good stuff!

The first thing I picked up was some red beads. I have been on the look out for some for a while now but they needed to be the right length and shape and size and these ones were perfect. They are original 1950's red lucite and the stall owner was very knowledgeable about her jewellery but unfortunately I didn't take note of what stall it was! You can see the beads in the picture below with the skirt.

The second item I picked up on Friday night was this super cute dress from Cassie's corner which I got for $20. It isn't vintage but it is very sweet and will be perfect for lovely summer days.

On Saturday I snapped up this beautiful Bavarian style skirt from Fossil Vintage after modelling it in the parades and falling in love with it. I'm not sure of the age of the skirt but I think it may be relatively modern.

Weekly Buys - Op Shopping Goodies

I had promised a post on taking my little niece pony riding at Centennial Park but the pony rides are so popular that by the time we go to Centennial Park they had already sold out. One woman there told us that tickets go on sale at 9am and sell out after a few minutes!

So instead of that post I thought I'd share with you a few items I picked up at my local Vinnies recently:

Andrew Llloyd Webber record - $2 and Andy Williams single - 50c 

2 pairs of white vintage gloves - $1 each

Gingham apron (not sure if it's vintage but it's definitely home made)  - $4

I also picked up a pair of white kid leather gloves for $5 but they were extremely stained and when I tried to clean them practically fell apart so unfortunately they were only good for the bin! Its a shame but I knew I was taking a gamble just trying to restore them to their former glory!  

Weekly Buys - Collectif

A few weeks back I hopped on the Collectif website and ordered some jumpers for winter.

I picked up the Mariella Birdcage Cardigan that I have been lusting after for a while but was never in stock when I tried to order it so I snapped it up quickly while I had the chance.

I also bought the cute Freddie Knit Top in a range of colours including the black, red, burgundy and antique green. They will look great with my swing trousers, 50s jeans or just a pencil skirt.

While I was on the site I spotted the super cute Melody Flamingo Skirt and just couldn't pass it up. Keep your eyes peeled for these as I'm sure the will be showing up in outfit posts soon!

Weekly Buys - 16th May 2013

It seems my weekly buy posts have become more of a monthly thing but nonetheless here are some of my recent purchases:

I recently picked up this 1920's style nautical dress from Relevant by Lady Lace for the bargain price of £10. It will be perfect to wear when we go to see The Great Gatsby.

I also picked up this stunning V Neck Dita Mad Men 50s Pinup Rockabilly Dress to wear to the Adams Family Musical next week. It is not only stylish but being made from a stretch jersey material is so comfortable.

These dresses will almost certainly be popping up in outfit posts over the next few weeks.

Weekly Buys - 5th April 2013

Its seems it has been sometime since I wrote a 'Weekly Buys' post in fact the last one was way back in October last year but recently Heyday held a sale selling off all their old designs to make way for new ones. I have had my eye on a number of the Fleur dresses for years but have not been able to afford them so when they went on sale for half the price I just had to snap them up! Here is what I purchased:

Weekly Buys - 13th October 2012

Today I did something I rarely do and went shopping in a mall with the Purple Fairy. While I love any excuse to shop I hate shopping at malls. The crowds drive me crazy and the shops all have the same style clothes in which definitely isn't my style but I bit the bullet and went on the promise of champagne after!

While I was there I took the opportunity to pop into Target and check out the Von Follies collection. I blogged about the collection ages ago but after discovering the overwire bras that I really wanted to buy only went up to a C cup I didn't actually buy any of the collection. Dita has recently released some new item in the collection so some of the older items were on sale. I picked up a few bras to try out but couldn't find anything in store in my size but I will definitely be ordering online!

I also discovered that Target are stocking Dita's perfume so I went to test it out. I expected it to be quite musky like Chanel no 5 but it is light and beautifully floral. As it was on $30 for a bottle I picked some up. I also tried on this cute spot dress but couldn't justify buying another dress.

We also popped into Big W but were very uninspired by the women's clothing section. Then to our delight we discovered the children's section and the amazing Miss Minnie collection. We realised that the age 14 items fit us so I picked up this supper cute jacket and vest top. I did not see the sequin mouse ears in store but I will definitely be going back to look for a pair!

I also grabbed a lemon cropped cardigan and a cute blue floral sheer blouse for summer from SES.

Weekly Buys - 21st September 2012

This week I've picked up a couple of cute vintage style dresses at bargain priced on eBay so I thought I'd share them with you. The first one is this Oasis burgundy velvet dress. I spotted this dress on Oasis website a few years back but didn't have the money to buy it so I was so happy when it popped up on eBay. The seller would only post to the UK so I've sent it to my Mums and she is sending it on to me. I will be sure to do an outfit post when it arrives unless the weather is too warm to wear it by then in which case you will probably see it in the autumn!  

The second dress is a green Primark one. I have a bit of a thing for emerald green at the moment (in case you hadn't noticed!) so this one just had to be snapped up!

Weekly Buys - 3rd September 2012

I haven't posted a weekly buy post since way back in May but I've picked up some amazing items recently so I thought I would share them with you.

I was hunting for Swirl dresses on eBay when this one popped up for the bargain price of $20 I snapped it up. It needed a bit of repair work but thanks to the lovely Tim of Like Johnny and June its now repaired and wearable!

In the same week I noticed this Swirl dress on Etsy for the great price of $29 it had a few marks on it but they came out with a quick soak.

After having my eye on a few Trashy Diva dresses for a while they announced they were having a sale so I took the opportunity to snap up the Rose dress in Slap and Tickle and the Bustle Betty dress in Chocolate Atomic.

Weekly Buys - 21 May 2012

Its been a while since I've posted a weekly buy post but when I found out about Forever New I just had to post about a few of their items that I had bought. In all honesty I can't take the credit for finding Forever New as the hubby spotted that one of the shop girls at the bakery had a coat that he thought I would like and asked her where she got it.

The first item I picked up was the Rhianna Velvet Trim Coat. A gorgeous wool blend coat that will be fantastic for our trip to the Blue Mountains in June. The Hubby actually treated me to the coat as an early birthday pressie.

When I checked out Forever New's website I saw they did this Cutie Bow Bonnet that matches the coat so I went in store to buy it but sadly my local store did not have any stocked. I did however pick up a cute sailor style pleated skirt that was in the sale and then had a further 40% off. I can't find the skirt on the website but I'm sure it will pop up on my blog in an outfit post soon. I have also spotted a few pretty vintage inspired items on their site that I will probably snap up soon.

Weekly Buys - 4th November 2011

This gorgeous 1950s yellow peasant blouse from Sewingmachinegirl on eBay for the bargain price of $12.99!

Remember a few weeks ago I mentioned I picked up a gorgeous red dot top in market city? Well here it is. Sorry the pictures not great but I will be putting together an outfit post soon.

and finally a good few months ago I changed my red dot canisters for these fabulous 1950s Lincoln Beautyware ones I also have the flour one but its too big to fit on top of my bread bin.
